Practical Steps
- Discuss details of the vows with your partner.Decide whether or not you will write vows together. Decide if you will share the vows prior the wedding or wait until the special day to share them with each other. Decide how long or short your vows will be. Also discuss what would be considered too private to share in a public ceremony.
- Discuss whether there will be on any religious references. Decide if you will make it a religious ceremony or not. If there are different faiths involved, decide if the service should be spiritually designed to blend both faiths.

Getting legally married in New York State
There are several steps required before a couple can legally be considered married. The link below provides a couple with the information needed to legally obtain a license to web in New York State.

Regardless of whether you are a heterosexual or same sex couple, if you are planning to legally get married, there are some basic steps you are legally require to take. The key ingredient before you can even get married anywhere, and I mean church or city clerk office, you are required to obtain a marriage “license”
The marriage license is the first thing you do before anyone can legally marry you. With the marriage license, you are indicating that you and your spouse are free to marry and are not married to anyone else legally. |
